When you’re dancing, it’s easy to lose track of your breathing. Practice steady, controlled breaths by working on diaphragmatic breathing exercises. Try taking in a deep breath that fills your belly instead of your chest. This gives you more power and control over your voice, even while you’re on the move.
Jumping straight into full routines can be overwhelming. Start by singing while walking around, then slowly add in simple movements. As you build stamina, try singing while doing more intense moves. With practice, your muscles and lungs will get used to the added strain, and it will feel less exhausting.
Marking is when you perform a lighter version of your dance moves while focusing on singing. This lets you rehearse without exhausting yourself, and you can practice syncing your voice with your movements. It’s a good way to find your rhythm between the two and fine-tune your breath support.
Some high-energy moves make it tough to hold notes or maintain pitch. If there’s a part in your routine that requires a lot of breath, consider modifying it slightly to protect your voice. A small tweak can make a big difference in keeping your vocals consistent.
Keeping hydrated helps your voice stay strong and keeps your energy up. Make sure to drink water throughout the day and avoid dairy or sugary drinks before performing.
