Welcome to week 1: Establishing a consistent practice! 
 
In this tutorial we are going to categorize our main vowels and consonants so that we can keep better track of them in our songs. We will do a systematic review of our vowels in a way that helps you build a stronger and more specific muscle memory connection to each type of shape. The 5 main vowels eee, ooo, aye, oh, and ah which are formed with our tongue and lips.

We will divide up the main consonant sounds into three main zones in the mouth where they are formed. The first are the lip consonants M, B, P, and W. The second group are hard palate consonants T, D, L, N, and R. Lastly, we have our soft palate consonants, where the heel of the tongue comes up to meet the soft palate for NG, G, K, and Y

  • NG, Gah, Kah, Yah

Abram Poliakoff is a singer, guitarist, pianist, teacher, conductor, and composer. He received a Bachelors of Music in Vocal Arts from USC’s Thornton School of Music and has been teaching music for 8 years. He is currently both the Associate Artistic Director and a tenor in the L.A. Choral Lab, which recently released its first studio album Sonic Visions in the fall of 2019. Abram teaches and performs a wide range of genres including Classical, Jazz, Folk and Popular music in the Los Angeles area. He has also sung with the San Francisco Opera and Pocket Opera in the Bay Area. His teaching mission is to help his students utilize vocal technique to find their authentic and healthy voice while maximizing genre flexibility and a naturalness of expression.
