Description:

Swing rhythms are used in jazz, funk, and rock music (think Hot For Teacher or Radar Love) to give the music a cool feel. Most swing rhythms are based on a triplet. You can think of it as two 8th notes, but making the first one longer. (Twice as long, in this example.)

Exercises: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8, then 7-6-5-4-3-2-1 (with swing rhythms)

Swing rhythms are such a cool color for your palette. Being able to swing is a mark of a versatile musician. You can practice it until it feels totally natural and GREAT. And once that happens you'll see people noting how good you've gotten. Some musicians have developed their own swing groove and it’s a great way to sound more unique.
