Description:

We have three more exercises to build stamina in sustaining your low notes. Remember that less is more. Pushing air or volume will actually make your job harder. Rather, return to our low note mantra: light and lifted, thinking up and forward.

We’ll begin with another exercise using the initial “BW” sound to keep the sound focused and clear at the front of the mouth.

[Exercise: BWUH 3-3-1]

Now for a new pattern! It goes like this. We have a central pitch that we’re walking one whole-step up and one half-step down from. Keeping our vowels narrow, focus on singing with a clear tone that doesn’t relax into vocal fry. Here we go!

[Exercise: DOO-BE-DOO 1-2-1-7-1]

Final exercise for this tutorial, on the syllable ZEE. If you’d like to experiment with a different vowel to feel the difference, please feel free! You could try the same pattern on ZA or ZO for a more open vowel position. Let’s begin!

[Exercise: ZEE 5-3-4-2-1]

Great job! Be sure to watch the conclusion for some final tips.
