    Hi Camille.

My name is Jeanette. And I'm having trouble doing the lip trill. And can't get my lips to move like yours. And when I do I either get a fart sound or just air. What am I doing wrong? Could it be hard cause I have no teeth. I don't want to spend alot of time on it. Cause I only have the free 14 day trial. And want to learn as much as I can right now. Is there another exercise that gives the same result and is just as effective? Thanks.

Absolutely, Jeanette! Please see this article for tips and lip trill alternatives.

Thanks I already seen that article and still seem to have trouble doing them. Is there something wrong with me? And why I'm having a hard time. I can't get the moment or sound like you do. You make it look so easy. I just keep getting the same result like a fart noise or sort of a car engine but also feel a vibration sound or just air comes out. If I can't do these. Is there any other exercise to do to get the same effect or results. Thanks.

Hi Camille. I read about how straw singing is also a good exercise for singing. Is that true? So if I do straw singing instead of lip trills then would I get the same result and effect? Also does it matter what size, wideness, or length the straw is? Or what type of straw as in what's better plastic or metal straws? Thanks.

Thank you for letting me know! There's nothing wrong with you! Yes, straw singing is an excellent type of SOVT (similar to a lip trill) and some would say you'll even get more benefit from that. (I've just been using lip trills for so long, I prefer them - but I have plenty of students who struggle with them and choose an alternative).

Here's a lesson explaining how to use the straw. I just use a drinking-sized straw of any material; but you may want a larger diameter at first, like a boba straw (or you can use more than one regular straw at once).
