Constantly feels like something is in my throat

I've felt like this for a really long time, long before starting this program, and it's affecting my singing and feels like it's affecting my tone. I do the daily practice routine with Mark every day plus a lesson, and any time I get in a moderately high range (even though my voice isn't all that low tbh), this causes my voice to crack and turns my voice into almost just breathe. I'm not sure if it's phlegm, but if I clear my throat, it feels like it comes up a little and gets "out of the way" and I don't have to strain nearly as much and I feel that my tone is warmer and clearer, but comes back as soon as I swallow. Even after finishing all of my practice and being warmed up, it's still there. I know this sounds super bizarre, but have you seen anything like this before and do you have any tips for it?

Hi, Daniel! That sounds frustrating. I haven't experienced exactly that, but I've definitely had mucus get "kicked up" as the result of singing. If it's mucus, you can gently clear your throat with lip trills or gentle vocal fry until your voice feels clear again.

I also can't overstate how important hydration is! Plain water (either room temp or warm/hot), or water with lemon is my favorite for thinning out mucus and hydrating my throat.

Have you ever brought this up with your doctor?

I'm an American so I haven't been to the doctor in like 10 years. However, my health is pretty good. I am extremely active with intense workouts 5 days per week, I only drink water, and I eat like a bodybuilder. It's never been a serious issue and it very well could just be mucus that is a huge pain. I will try out the water with lemon before one of my lessons to see if it helps.

Definitely a good idea to increase your hydration and see if that makes a difference! Consider allergies as well - seasonal and food. Both could be increasing mucus production or thickening your mucus as well.

(I'm not a doctor, just speaking from singer experience!)
