Hi Camille I recently watched your live class on range extension and just wondering when I am extending the head voice using a lip trill with less vocal effort my voice  cuts off in the chest/head mix area F#4 and then cuts off in the highest pitch around C5 (between F#4-C5 there are soemtiems tune). Should I still do the lip trills up to C5? Thankyou from gracie

Hey, Grace! Is there another gentle coordination you can use in which the sound doesn't cut out - maybe a quiet NN or NG?

Hi Camille, It doesint cut out when using a nn or ng :) I am trying with a straw aswell, sometimes it feels harder to sing those higher notes with a straw with Smaller diameter, it requires more vocal effort or tune turns to air. Why is it like that when we change straws? Are we straining with the smaller straw? Thankyou

Great! Stick with those coordinations to train your vocal folds to stay together in the easiest way possible. You can gradually open up to a vowel (something like NN-EE or NG-AH).

Smaller straw = more back pressure, which is helpful to a point but is certainly more difficult if it's too much. I'd start with a regular drinking straw!

Nice! Sure. just wondering whether you know if it safe to use a plastic straw for a few days or we have to use a new one after each use? thanks :)

Good question! To be very safe, you could use a reusable straw and wash it between uses. But as long as you're the only one using that straw, I think it should be fine!

Camille how is it that when i sing higher pitches my vocals sounds nasal and why when i sing higher notes when i hit it i don't crack but it's like my voice is hesitant to hit that high pitch note again.

Most people have an easier time singing high notes (at first) with a smaller mouth opening (like an OO or EE vowel) - and that naturally has a more nasal tone due to the reduced mouth resonance.

And it's also very common for you to hesitate before hitting a high note; we get a little anxious and uncertain once we're outside of our "comfort zone".

It really does take time to become comfortable in head voice - but as long as you're using head voice every day within your vocal exercise, you're on the right track!
