What Does it Mean When I Can Do Vocal Fry Easily After Warmups?

I haven't been singing for quite a few weeks and I just started with the beginner male vocal warm up exercise I got from one of the 4 free gifts. I followed along.

Until a certain point, my voice can do vocal fry easily. It's the same sensation when you have fever and then you try to talk, it's like vocal fry is present even when you're talking. I'm sorry I really don't what's the right word to describe this. If thwre is a word for this, please let me know!

I then go on and kept doing the exercises, then I felt a bit of pain in the throat.

    so,

    1. What causes my voice to do the vocal so easily(sorry, bad english articulation)?

    and

    2. Is this a good or bad thing? What do I do?

    • Thanks a lot in advance!

    Hi Tan Hong Zhi,

A big part of vocal preservation is proper air support/proper breathing. Check out Camille's YouTube video about vocal strain and vocal health for an in-depth look: https://youtu.be/s6HRdzfpT20

    Hi, Tan!

I can think of 3 things causing you to fry more easily: (1) relaxation, (2) dehydration, and (3) lack of breath support.

Vocal fry isn't unhealthy, but it's something we want to use intentionally. My advice is to make sure you're hydrated (all the time, not just when you're singing), and use something like a lip trill, NN, or NG to "reset" the vocal folds with proper connection and balance when you feel you're frying without intending to.
